What I'm Doing Now
I'm at home in Manchester, England. It's a rare sunny day. I'm working beside an open window, accompanied by the sound of birds occasioanlly chirping. I've had too much MateMate.
I'm spending the majority of my time working on Yakk, my language-learning project, which has recently taken on a new direction. Having gone through many iterations of what the project could be, I've finally decided what it should be.
Imagine if language learning books were smart. What if they could remind you about things you were about to forget? What if they surprised you with novel, fun ways to practise as you learn? What if they weren't 300 pages, but small hyper-focused interactive resources that got you using a language right away?
The past few weeks I've been working hard on v0.0.1 of this new idea, but there's still more to do before it'll be useful and surprising enough to ask for anyone's attention.
I've also been reading a lot. I recently finished Hell Yeah or No, by the always-inspiring Derek Sivers. It's a nice short read, full of great ideas. I love its metaphor of aiming to be the "counter-melody" to a combination you must find for yourself. I think I made a few helpful combinations.
Here in the UK, life is returning to some version of normal. For the first time in 17 weeks I worked from a coffee shop, which felt both strange and normal. My gym just reopened, but I'm not sure I remember how to use it.
